HI, I'M BETHAN

I am a certified Fight Director and Intimacy Director working in Theatre, TV and Film.

Whether you require a single moment or an expansive scene of dramatic combat or intimacy I can facilitate and collaborate to make action which is embodied, bold, dramatic and truthful.

My practice is built on 18 years in the industry, starting out as an an actor. After completing

training at Drama Centre (MA Classical Acting) and at Exeter University (BA Drama) I went on to work professionally as an actor and fight performer in theatre and film. Alongside acting I was an applied drama workshop facilitator, working across the UK and Europe providing training to all ages and backgrounds of participants and specialised in working within prisons using drama and theatre as a creative and explorative outlet. My passion for physical storytelling led me to retrain as a Fight and Intimacy practitioner.

This combination of industry experience and drama facilitation informs my work and provides the foundation of my practice: inclusivity, kindness, supported challenge, collaboration and creativity.

TEACHING & WORKSHOPS

As a certified Senior Teacher with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat my aim is to encourage and empower my students for the practical application of their skills in the industry. I work both within drama schools and universities as well as providing bespoke workshops for organisations and public BADC certification courses.

British American Drama Academy: resident Intimacy and Fight Director. Co-devised and teach a bespoke consent focused and ensemble building workshop for students and staff each term.

Arts Ed: visiting combat and intimacy tutor and director for the BA Acting. Providing tuition and training in dramatic combat and intimacy practice and production choreography.

MetFilm School on BA Acting for Screen BA and MA Screen Acting: devised an intensive module on fundamentals of unarmed and armed fighting for film for film. Training systems are unarmed, knife, longsword and handguns. Intimacy Coordination support for films.

Avant Cymru and Cult Cymru: provided BADC certification courses in Cardiff and Rhondda Valley.

Royal Central School of Speech and Drama: Summer School BADC Standard Level Course. Fight & Intimacy Direction for MA Classical and Contemporary Actings courses for the past 10 years includes: The White Devil, Blood Wedding, Mother Courage, In Hell and Hamlet.

East 15 Acting School on BA Acting and Stage Combat: guest tutor and fight director.

Prior to my teacher training and alongside acting I was an applied drama workshop facilitator. I facilitated with all ages and backgrounds of participants and specialised in working within prisons for 5 years, using drama and theatre as a creative and explorative outlet. This extensive experience of drama facilitation enhances my work as I am experienced at devising bespoke intimacy and fight courses and workshops to meet a variety of requirements.
